Livestock production in Mexico attained an historic growth by reaching a record production of 6.5 million tonnes (carcass weight) in 2016, that meant an increase by 202,000 tonnes (3.2% more than in 2015), according to the data of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA).

During 2016, important rises were reached in pork (+4.0%), fowl (+3.8%), goat (2.6%) and beef (1.8%) production, whilst the production of eggs and milk had positive trends with increases by 2.5% and 1.9%, respectively.

According to the data of the SAGARPA, during the first six months of 2017, production has gone on with its growth, with increases by 4.2%, 2.4% and 2.4% for the production of pork, beef and fowl products, respectively.
