In 2025, Brazil’s pig industry demonstrated significant growth in production, slaughter, and exports, setting new records. At the same time, the country saw a moderate recovery in domestic pork consumption, confirming the stability of the internal market.

By the end of the year, Brazil’s pig sector showed positive dynamics across key indicators. Pig slaughter increased by 3.6%, reaching 59.7 million head compared to 57.6 million a year earlier. Pork production grew by 4.3%, rising to 5.56 million tonnes (up from 5.33 million tonnes in 2024).

Average carcass weight also increased slightly — by 0.6% to 93 kg — indicating gradual improvements in productivity within the sector.

The most notable result of the year was record-breaking exports. In 2025, Brazil exported 1.48 million tonnes of pork, up 11.9% compared to 2024 (1.32 million tonnes). As a result, the country ranked third among global pork exporters, overtaking Canada.

Exports were mainly directed to strategic markets in Asia and Latin America. Around 60% of total shipments went to just five countries, with the Philippines remaining the largest destination (392,700 tonnes, or 26.6% of total exports), followed by China (10.8%), Chile (8.0%), Japan (7.8%), and Hong Kong (7.3%).

Frozen pork dominated the export structure, accounting for 84.2% of total volumes. Pork offal (8.1%) and boneless legs and shoulders (4.1%) also represented significant shares, with these categories together making up more than 96% of total exports.

At the same time, Brazil increased pork imports to 10,600 tonnes — a rise of 201.8% compared to the previous year. The main imported items were pork fat (61.3%), salted or brined pork (19.8%), frozen pork (9.7%), and frozen pork offal (7.6%).

Domestic pork consumption also expanded. Apparent consumption increased by 1.9% in 2025, reaching 4.09 million tonnes and continuing the historical trend of moderate growth in internal demand.

Experts note that the combination of strong export performance and stable domestic demand creates favourable conditions for the Brazilian pig sector in 2026 and further strengthens the country’s position as one of the key players in the global pork market.
