Total production of pork, beef, mutton and poultry meat in China reached 50.50 million tonnes in the first half of the year, up 4.3% year on year.
The strongest growth among the main meat categories was recorded in poultry, with production increasing by 9.4%. Pork output rose by 3.3%.
Meanwhile, beef production declined by 1%, while mutton production fell by 3.9%.
At the end of the second quarter, China’s pig herd stood at 424.91 million head, just 0.1% higher than a year earlier.
From January to June, 372.46 million pigs were slaughtered in the country, up 1.7% compared with the first half of 2025.
Thus, growth in China’s pork production is occurring against the backdrop of an almost unchanged pig herd, while slaughter volumes continue to increase moderately.
