Between January and September 2026, China imported 1.44 million tonnes of pork and pork offal, down 15.3% from the same period in 2025. Compared with 2020, import volumes have fallen by 66.7%, while offal accounts for an increasingly large share of China’s pork imports.

The largest decline was recorded in pork itself. Over the first nine months of the year, China imported 570,000 tonnes of pork, compared with 780,000 tonnes a year earlier, a decrease of 26.9%.

Imports of pork offal remained considerably more stable, falling by 5.4% from 920,000 tonnes in January–September 2025 to 870,000 tonnes this year.

The difference is particularly striking compared with 2020, when China imported 4.32 million tonnes of pork and offal during the first nine months of the year. Since then, pork imports have fallen by 82.6%, while offal imports have declined by only 16.3%.

The structure of Chinese demand has changed significantly over the past six years. In January–September 2026, offal accounted for 60.4% of total imports of pork and pork products, while pork itself represented 39.6%.

By comparison, the situation was the reverse in 2020: pork accounted for around 75.8% of imports, while offal represented just 24.2%.

Thus, over six years, the share of pork in China’s total imports within this category has fallen by 36.2 percentage points.
