Live pig market: multidirectional movement

During the last week of June, the pork market saw multidirectional price movements, according to analysts at the Association of Ukranian Pig Bredeers.

During the bidding last Friday, about half of the operators revised the planned price for the week by 0.2-2 UAH/kg. Thus, the prices for pigs of slaughter conditions in the West fluctuated within 56-57 UAH/kg, in the East the price corridor fixed at 58.5-61 UAH/kg, and in the Center it was 59-60 UAH/kg. Despite these changes, the majority of producers have left the selling price at the level of the previous week, and the weighted average market mark added 5 kopecks, amounting to 58.95 UAH/kg.

Among the key reasons for the price pressure increase, particularly in the West of the country, the producers have voiced a significant revival of import activity, associated with the abolition of "tax benefits" when importing products from abroad since July. In addition, some processors complain about the weakening of sales and increased competition, in particular with suppliers of pork from other regions. On the other hand, although the total weekly supply of pigs of slaughter conditions has stabilized somewhat, in the East and South the situation remains more tense, which supports prices in these regions. At the same time, a natural "regulator" of the market in the next couple of months will be a seasonal decline in the growth rate of live weight of animals in the rest of the regions.
