Vietnam: ASF Epidemic Declared in Dong Xoai City (Binh Phuoc)

The People's Committee of Dong Xoai city, Binh Phuoc province has declared an African swine fever epidemic in Tan Binh ward.

The epidemic area for African swine fever (ASF) was determined in Tan Binh ward, the threat area with a radius of 3 km in Tan Xuan, Tan Phu, Tan Thien, and Tien Thanh wards and Tien Hung commune.

According to the People's Committee of Dong Xoai city, previously, in the Tan Tra 2 neighborhood of Tan Binh ward, pigs on a farm were showing signs of ASF and then tested positive for ASF. This is the second farm in Dong Xoai city to have pigs infected with ASF in 2023. Previously, in March 2023, a farm in Tien Hung commune also had a herd of pigs infected with ASF.

The People's Committee of Dong Xoai city requested urgent measures to prevent and control the epidemic including the destruction of all infected pigs or pigs suspected to be infected, the control of the slaughter, transportation, and trade of pigs, and the implementation of cleaning and disinfection at outbreaks and threatened areas.

Binh Phuoc province currently has a herd of more than 2 million pigs. From the beginning of 2023 until now, in the Binh Phuoc area, there have been a number of ASF outbreaks in localities, mainly on small farms. A small number of pigs have been affected.
