Vietnam: Livestock trade situation

In the third quarter of 2023 alone, Vietnam exported 5.78 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 28.37 million USD and imported 195.09 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 397.16 million USD.

Exports

The export value of livestock products in the first 10 months of 2023 is estimated to reach 402 million USD, an increase of 22.0% over the same period in 2022. Of which, by the end of the third quarter, Vietnam had exported 16.16 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 77.85 million USD, up 28.4% in volume and 39.3% in value over the same period in 2022.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the export volume of breeding pigs, piglets, and pigs for slaughter all decreased compared to 2022.

Imports

Vietnam's imports of meat and meat products increased in the first 10 months of 2023. Imports of pork and pork by-products increased 78% compared to the same period in 2022.

In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam imported 3,675 female pigs and 1,288 male pigs.

The total volume of imported animal feed in the first 10 months of 2023 was 13.6 million tons (equivalent to 5.6 billion USD), down 4% in volume and 11% in value compared to the same period in 2022.
