• Animal health in Ukraine: Results of the Program to Support Pork Producers in 2023

The war has caused a number of challenges for the domestic pig industry, including disease control and the spread of infections. With this in mind, the Department of Agriculture of Foreign Countries (FAS) of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) have been implementing the project  Animal Health in Ukraine for 12 months since October 2022. It aimed to assess the risks of controlling the spread of diseases during the war, to support enterprises from the de-occupied and territories close to hostilities with free laboratory diagnostics, to help pig farms improve the biosafety system and increase the capacity of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection to respond to suspected animal diseases at the stage of veterinary examination in the agri-food market. The first stage of the project was completed in October 2023. Its results were summed up in a conversation with the President of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders (AUPB) Oksana Yurchenko.
