During the training, participants reviewed current requirements for the use of veterinary medicines, the documentation of animal treatment, the traceability of antibiotic use and specific aspects of state control. Considerable attention was devoted to practical cases encountered by specialists during farm inspections, as well as to measures aimed at reducing the risk of antimicrobial resistance.
“Effective action against antimicrobial resistance is impossible without a consistent approach to state control, continuous professional development and open dialogue between regulators and market operators. Training sessions such as these help establish a shared vision and harmonised approaches to work,” the event organisers noted.
The training in Ivano-Frankivsk concluded a series of educational events for representatives of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. The sessions were held in different regions of Ukraine and aimed to strengthen the professional capacity of specialists in the responsible use of antimicrobials.
The training was conducted under the Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC) project, funded by the U.S. Department of State, with the participation of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.
The EpiC project in Ukraine aims to strengthen the country’s public health, animal health and laboratory capacities by providing targeted technical assistance, building institutional capacity and improving coordination among national and regional public and animal health authorities in line with international standards and cross-sectoral principles.
The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit voluntary organisation established by domestic pork producers. Its main objectives are to represent and protect the rights and interests of its member farms, facilitate the development and implementation of new technologies for efficient pork production, expand sales markets and protect the domestic market.
