A new case of African swine fever (ASF) in a wild boar has been confirmed in the Hrymailiv community of Chortkiv district, Ternopil region. The information was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) in the region.

The carcass of the infected animal was promptly disposed of — it was incinerated and buried in accordance with veterinary protocols. The surrounding area was thoroughly disinfected.

The infection site has been declared an ASF-affected area, and both a protection zone and a surveillance zone have been established around it, where additional restrictions will apply.

Specialists from the SSUFSCP have launched a comprehensive set of measures to prevent the further spread of the virus, including:

  • enhanced monitoring of the wild boar population;
  • informing the local population about risks and required precautions;
  • restrictions on the movement of pigs within farms;
  • strengthened control over hunting grounds;
  • repeated disinfection within the high-risk zone.

The agency emphasizes that strict adherence to biosecurity rules and timely reporting of dead animals are critical for stopping the spread of ASF.

Ukraine also operates an incentive program encouraging citizens to report cases of dead wild boar. A reward of 0.5 of the subsistence minimum for employable persons (valid on the date the case is confirmed) is paid for each reported carcass.

Eligible individuals must be Ukrainian citizens aged 18 or older. To receive payment, they must notify the territorial SSUFSCP office about the discovery and provide the necessary information for proper documentation.
