Chile’s pig sector is stepping up its efforts in Southeast Asian markets. As part of a promotional tour, ChilePork held meetings with 91 representatives of importing companies in the Philippines and Vietnam: the former is already showing rapid growth in shipments, while market access for Chilean pork in Vietnam is in its final stage.

The Philippines is already an important destination for Chilean pork. Since the market opened in 2020, shipments have shown steady growth.

In 2025, Chile exported around 6,700 tonnes of pork to the Philippines worth $7.3 million. Between January and August 2026, shipment volumes increased by a further 68%, while their value rose by 91% compared with the same period last year.

As of August, pork already accounted for around 12% of the total value of Chilean exports to the Philippines and had become the country’s second-largest food export to the market after salmon.

Representatives of all Chilean pork exporting companies — AASA, Agrosuper, Coexca and Maxagro — took part in the promotional meeting in Manila.

In Vietnam, the priority remains completing the sanitary market access procedure. Following an audit of Chile’s pork production system conducted by the Vietnamese authorities in December 2024, the veterinary certificates have already been agreed. They now only need to be signed for the import authorisation to be finalised.

With a population of more than 100 million, Vietnam is Chile’s main trading partner in Southeast Asia and is regarded as a promising market for diversifying pork exports.

Another advantage is provided by the CPTPP: the main categories of frozen Chilean pork enter Vietnam at a zero tariff rate.

ChilePork is seeking to establish links with potential buyers in advance so that commercial shipments can begin quickly once sanitary approval is granted.

Chile Exports More Than Half of Its Pork Production

Chile is the world’s sixth-largest pork exporter. In 2025, the country produced around 590,000 tonnes of pork, of which approximately 328,000 tonnes were shipped to foreign markets. Export value totalled around $698 million.

ChilePork has been promoting the sector internationally since 2006, with a focus on animal health status, food safety, traceability, reliability of supply and the ability to adapt products to the requirements of individual markets.
