The average price of chilled pork in February was by 1.4% or 2.5 UAH/kg cheaper than a month earlier. Such a change has been noted by analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pork Producers in the course of monthly monitoring of retail prices of national retail networks.

The average price of chilled pork in February was by 1.4% or 2.5 UAH/kg cheaper than a month earlier. Such a change has been noted by analysts of the Association of Ukrainian Pork Producers in the course of monthly monitoring of retail prices of national retail networks.

Prices of pork semi-finished chilled on the supermarkets shelves in February were lower than in January: «Thus, while during the first month of the year a kilo of pork was 179.1 UAH/kg on average, in February the average price was 176.6 UAH/kg or 1.4% lower. Thus markedly fell in price thigh part (minus 3.8 UAH to 163.7 UAH/kg), breast (minus 4.2 UAH/kg to 166.7 UAH/kg) and loin (minus 4.5 UAH/kg to 205.2 UAH/kg), while the price of collar compared to January price decreased by 1% or 2 UAH/kg (to 197.4 UAH/kg) «- analysts said ACU.

«The decrease in retail pork prices occurred on the background of similar dynamics in the live stock market. Thus, in February the weighted average purchase price of pigs of slaughter conditions „dropped“ by 4.2 UAH/kg (-6.2% to 66.3 UAH/kg). At the same time the change of price lists at the end of winter was limited by fluctuations by 0.2−2.5% or 1−5 UAH/kg. That is why the price of final sale did not fully translate into changes of purchase and occasionally „rossinhronize“ with it during downward movement, that is why the correction of prices for live pigs is far from the only factor, which influences it. At the same time, the positive price dynamics at the beginning of March, the retail trade „picked up“ more quickly. Despite this and the previous fears of pork market operators about trade during the seasonal decline in consumer activity, most of them note that the implementation of chilled semi-finished products is relatively even», the analytical department of the Association commented.

The Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders is a non-profit, voluntary organization founded by domestic pork producers. The main purposes of the association are representation and protection of rights and interests of farms of the association, assistance in development and introduction of new technologies for efficient production of pork, expansion of sales markets, and protection of domestic sales market.
