Prices on the Ukrainian pork market recovered at the end of May

The third decade of May was marked by the recovery of quotations in the industrial pork market, according to the results of the weekly price monitoring of the analytical department of the Association of Ukrainian Pig Breeders.

Last week's trading ended with a long-awaited change in the vector of movement of slaughter pig purchase prices: suppliers of live pigs signed up for batches 3-5 UAH/kg more expensive than a week earlier. Purchase prices for live pigs ranged from 58.5-62 UAH/kg, but mostly tended to the weighted average market price of 60 UAH/kg, which is 7.7% higher than last week.

Suppliers of slaughter pigs say that trade is going on as planned, without postponements or cancellations. At the same time, the supply of heavier animals continues to put pressure on prices, although it is significantly lower than before. Procurers are currently refraining from predicting further price changes, but most of them expect prices to stabilise in the near future. Sales of pork, according to their feedback, weakened compared to the Easter period, but remain relatively stable and planned.

Some operators do not rule out an increase in prices in early summer and express hope that they will remain at the optimal level for both pig farms and meat processing for most of the season.
